Right now, Montana is experiencing a large transfer of wealth with billions of dollars transferring from one generation to the next. The question is whether any of that wealth will stay behind in the communities that helped build it.
If only a small portion of this wealth—say 5%—was protected in permanent charitable endowments, millions of dollars would be available each year to invest in Montana communities and the charities that make them the places we love to call home.
The Montana Community Foundation commissioned a Transfer of Wealth Study in 2011. Using the most recent data and methodology available at the time, it predicted that $123 billion would transfer from one generation to the next between 2010 and 2060. The study showed the incredible potential to build and sustain Montana communities.
